Anthidium sonorense Cockerell, 1923
Biology:
Aizoaceae: Sesuvium verrucosum. Fabaceae: Dalea spinosa; Prosopis sp. Zygophyllaceae: Larrea divaricata, L. tridentata.
Diagnostic description:
This species is most similar to A. paroselae, differing by the shape of the apical mandibular tooth and the distal margin of T6 in the female, and T7, S6, and S7 of the male. Also, the female of A. sonorense typically has two longitudinal submedian yellow bands on the disc of the scutum; such bands are absent in A. paroselae. Males of this species run twice in the key because the tibial carina is sometimes weak to nearly absent.
Distribution:
Sonoran and Mojave Deserts of USA and northern Mexico. May be locally abundant in the spring on creosote bush (Hurd & Linsley 1975).
